The Daughters

of Destiny Conference 2009

October 11-17, 2009

The Purpose of the Camp

We are so excited that you have expressed an interest in being a part of the Daughters of Destiny Conference this year.  We are seeking to honor the Lord in all that is done during the week. To insure that the young ladies who truly have a desire to be there are given the best possible teaching atmosphere, several changes have been made.  To reach this goal, it is necessary for the leadership of the conference to be accountable to the Lord and to the parent's, who send their precious daughters to the conference.  Parents must also be in one accord with our mission and with the regulations set for the young ladies while they are attending the conference.   Changes have therefore been made to the registration process and the size of the conference has been markedly decreased.

In the past years, essentially any young lady who turned in her registration, providing that there was available space, was accepted for the week.  This is no longer the practice.  After much prayer and seeking the Lord’s direction, the leadership has decided on a new course for Daughters of Destiny Conference.  This year, if a young lady would like to be a part of the week, she must complete an application/questionnaire in addition to the standard registration form.  This application must be completed by the registrant, not the parent.  Also, the young lady must list one personal reference (not a family member) which we could contact, if necessary.  After the application has been reviewed by the leadership of the conference, the applicant will be notified if she has been accepted for the week.  As mentioned previously, the size of the camp will be nearly half of what it has been in the last couple of years.  This is to improve the quality of teaching and to provide an atmosphere in which lasting relationships can be developed amongst the young ladies attending the conference.

We believe these changes will honor the Lord, and allow the young ladies who have a true heart for Biblical womanhood and girlhood to be able to attend the conference in a nurturing atmosphere, and be true to the guiding purpose of the Daughters of Destiny Conference which is as follows:

"This camp is designed to strengthen, equip, and encourage young ladies ages 12-18 up the great path of Beautiful Girlhood.  It is our prayer that we can help to inspire them to be a blessing to others inside and outside their home.   We want to strengthen their resolve towards Godliness, walking as light in a dark world, through daily studies in the Bible.   We want to equip them to gain new skills or sharpen those they may already possess in order to bless others and to become ministry minded.  We also want to encourage their hearts by giving them the chance to have fellowship and fun with other young ladies that also have a vision and a passion for Biblical womanhood."

We invite any questions about these new procedures in the application process.  Please feel free to email either Mrs. Pam Foster at:  Fulqwvrmom@aol.com or Mrs. Erika Blessman at:  timman@swva.net.

This Year’s Theme is...

Skill Building Activities

Creative Arts

SCRAPBOOKING - Girls will create memories by designing scrapbooks with pictures they bring from home.  They can either bring their own scrapbooks to work on if they have already started one, or they can create their own in class.

CREATIVE GIFT MAKING - Nothing shows "you care" better than a homemade gift!  In this class you will learn a variety of ways to create gifts that involve thought provoking ideas put into a budget that will not break your bank account!  This class will prove invaluable!

BEAD ART -  This class will cover everything from making beads from paper and clay to creating jewelry and other beautiful creations.  This is a great opportunity to develop an ability for a cottage industry or just to make lovely gifts for family and friends!

FOLK ART DOLL MAKING -  We will create dolls from a variety of textiles, including clothespin dolls and cornhusk dolls.   This class will be a lot of fun!

BASKET MAKING - Back again by popular demand, this class will instruct you in the traditional basket making as well as to learn some new creative varities.

Fiber Arts

BASIC SEWING - This class will include the basics of sewing with needle and machine as well as how to read and cut out a pattern.

KNITTING/CROCHET - Everyone should know how to knit or crochet!  If you haven't learned how to yet, this is the class for you!  Once you know how, the projects you can complete are endless!  We will have beginner AND an advanced class this year.

SMOCKING - How many of you have seen those adorable dresses for little girls with all the pleats and colored threads??  Would you like to learn how to do that?  This is a class for young ladies who already have a basic knowledge of sewing.

SPINNING - In this class you will learn how to spin fibers with a drop spindle.  If we are able to obtain a spinning wheel, we will also instruct the young ladies in this area as well.

TATTING - Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace constructed by a series of knots and loops.  Tatting can be used to make lace edging as well as doilies, collars, and other decorative pieces.   It is absolutely beautiful and an art worth learning!

Ministry/Service

ENCOURAGEMENT MINISTRY/MISSIONS - We need to encourage each other in our daily life!  This class will explore ways in which we can encourage others in our home, church, or around the world.

HOPE CHEST - Have you started your own hope chest yet?  What is a hope chest?  A hope chest, dowry chest, or glory box is a chest used to collect items of clothing and household items, by unmarried young ladies in anticipation of getting married.  This will be a fun class exploring the history of the hope chest, what is to be included in the hope chest, and various ways of preparing for your "someday" home of your own.

HOME HOSPITALITY/HOUSEHOLD MANAGEMENT - This class will include everything from how to host guests in your home, to budgeting your family expenses.  This is a great class with endless topics to discuss!

HOSPICE CARE - This is a special class that meets such a great need.  Each of us know of someone in our life who is taking care of an elderly parent or grandparent.  How can we as young ladies be of help to the caregiver and/or to the patient??  Take this class to find out more about this special ministry.

THE HANDWRITTEN LETTER - This class involves more than just writing letters!  In this class we will learn how to encourage others with letter writing, how to embellish your handwriting with calligraphy, poetry, and more.

PLEASE NOTE:  Please list your first choice and second choice for each activity—Creative Arts, Fiber Arts, and Ministry/Service.  Sign up for these classes will be on a first come, first served basis, so please do not forget to include this on your registration form.  If both of your choices are filled, you will be contacted to select a third choice.
